Derrick Miliner Lay Minister
Lay Minister Derrick Miliner started his ministry at Forest Glen Gospel Chapel at Walter Reed Army Medical Center on May 28, 1989. The chapel became affiliated with the Church of God in Christ in 1989 and Derrick was ordained a deacon on July 2, 1989. His wife was enlisted in the Army and was transferred from Washington, D.C. to San Antonio Texas on November 10, 1990 where he served at the Fort Sam Houston Protestant Chapel for four years. Derrick served as an usher at the traditional protestant worship service for two years. February 13, 1993, Derrick and two other Chaplinís co-founded the Fort Sam Houston Gospel Care Center which continues to flourish and worship today. After returning from San Antonio Texas in November of 1994, he and his wife searched for a place to worship for two years until finally Derrick heard Godís calling at Calvary Lutheran Church, Silver Spring, Maryland in early 1997. After accepting Godís call, Derrick was then educated at the Theological Education by extension program at Concordia University, Mequon Wisconsin. Derrick graduated the Lay Ministry program within four years and was certified as a Lutheran Lay Minister and Professional Church Worker. Derrick served at Calvary as an elder, head elder, vice president of administration, and minister of outreach. Derrick transferred from Calvary to Concordia Lutheran Church, Upper Marlboro Maryland in 2004 to become the minister of outreach and an assistant Lay Pastor where he is currently serving.
Derrick is a Minister of Religion (2004) Commissioned by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, a Lay Ministry Certification (May 2003) from Concordia University in Mequon Wisconsin. He holds a graduate degree in Telecommunications Management (2002) from the University of Maryland University College Graduate School of Management and Technology, and an undergraduate degree in Health Care Management (1997) from Southern Illinois University. Derrick is also a full time employee with the federal government which he has served for 30 years. He is currently working at the U.S. General Services Administration, Office of Governmentwide Policy, as the program manager for Federal Asset Sales.
