Rev. Alan J. Wollenburg - Concordia Ev. Lutheran Church - Sikeston, MO

"Children, how difficult it is to enter the kingdom of God!" Jesus' statement surprised the disciples because He had just said that it will be very hard for wealthy people to get into heaven! Jesus' statement surprises us because we were always told that we can get into heaven freely by God's wonderful grace! In today's sermon, we will ponder one expected truth and a couple of unexpected truths. Be challenge but ultimately blessed as Pastor preaches on Mark 10:23-31 on the theme: "What Your Money Can't Buy!" +

P: God knows our hearts. He knows that, before we have faith, we all love and trust in things and people besides Him.

C: The very 1st Commandment says, "You shall have no other gods before Me." (Ex. 20:3)

P: When Dr. Luther wrote his explanation of the Commandment, he said, "We should fear, love, & trust in God above all things." But we all know that we do not do this.

C: Because we love this life and the things of this life so much, Jesus said, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. . . . No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money." (Matt 6:19-21, 24 ESV)
