Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!

Today is the third Sunday after Easter, called Jubilate , which means in Latin, "Rejoice ! " Also today is Mother's Day . Our Gospel for today is a very suitable topic for today , because the subject is joy among the pains and problems of this life.

What illustration does our Lord use for the pains that become joy? When the time for a woman to give birth arrives , is there pain? Yes. For each of our mothers, the hour of our birth was a time for pain. Is it true ? OK, sure . But , says our Lord , this time of sorrow becomes one of joy. Why? After the pain , the woman has a child . I'm not a woman, but many women have told me that to have a child is worth the pain of childbirth.

So our Lord says in our gospel, the pains and trials of this life will be worth it on the day when the Lord returns . In the text , the Lord said to his disciples , " A little while, and ye shall not see me ; and again a little while, and ye shall see me : because I go to My Father . Then said some of his disciples among themselves , What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me ; and again a little while , and ye shall see me : and, Because I go to the Father? " He spoke before His death and resurrection, so they did not understand Him .

Jesus was born into this world of the Virgin Mary and for a while , we had among us God made flesh , the Son of the living God in a visible form, the Word of God , the message of God's love , directly from His lips. But it was necessary to achieve His goal , that He must suffer and die on the cross for us, and then be resurrected from the dead. At that time the disciples did not understand what would happen to Jesus. For a while Jesus was among them in a visible form , died and was in the tomb until the third day after the crucifixion . And again after He was raised many disciples saw him, once 500 at the same time, says St. Paul. Mary Magdalene was the first person to see the risen Christ, but then St. Peter , St. John and others.

But what do we confess in the Creed ? After his resurrection , Jesus ascended into heaven to be seated at the right hand of the Father to judge the world. And now, we do not h ave Jesus Christ among us in a visible form. But this is not forever. We hope that one day that Christ will return in glory. This will be the end of the world , judgment day for all nations , all people, all people. No one knows the date of this day, even though many people claim to know the date , but that is contrary to the Bible, which says the Father did not reveal the date even to Christ in his earthly life. However, the day will come when Christ will judge all of us.

On that day we will live with Christ in eternal glory, no pain , no problems. But right now , we have the joy amid the pain , the trials, as a woman has the hope and joy of new life amid her pains . She awaits the birth of her son, this is the source of her hope and joy

In the same way , our hope and joy is the promise of the second coming of Christ and eternal life with Him forever . It is the source of joy in our lives , amid the difficulties and trials . What kind of trials do we have today? In Venezuela now, we have shortagesof food , paper , shampoo and other things, the blackouts, the insecurity in the streets . All are looking for solutions for these problems, but also , there are many personal difficulties for many people, diseases , anxiety , worries, problems with their relationships with others and more . But all these things are in God's hands . All shall pass and the promise of eternal life will last forever.

So how do we live with this joy within us ? What is our model ? As St. Peter says in our epistle ( 1 Peter 2.11-20 ) , we do not live as those who do not believe , having no hope. We endure all the trials and troubles patiently , with a calm that arises from faith in God. We respect the laws and civil government . Let us live in peace and harmony , first with our brothers in the faith, and our neighbors if possible. Do not forget the laws ordained for the welfare of the people . Do not steal , do not kill , do not commit adultery . All things ordered of us in the 10 Commandments. We will live as sons and daughters of God with God's help . As our reading of the Old Testament ( Isaiah 40.25-31 ) said , the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall : But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength ; they shall mount up with wings like eagles , they shall run and not be weary , walk and not faint.

Because we have the Spirit of God in our hearts to help us, to sustain us in our lives. To live among the difficulties and trials until the second coming of Christ is like a woman endures her labor pains for the hope of her child. And when the child is born , women forget the pain because of their joy, the joy that began with the conception of the child and becomes full on the day of its birth. Because she knew that she had a child inside her , but at birth she has her child in her arms. This is the illustration that the Lord uses for our lives in this world. We thank the Lord for this hope and today in a special way for our mothers also

The peace that passes all understanding be with each of you forever. Amen .
