Grace and peace in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

In our text for today, St. Paul tells part of the story of the liberation of the people Israel from slavery through the power of God. The Lord had sent Moses to Pharaoh king of Egypt with the command: "Let my people go." Ten times he struck the Egyptians with terrible plagues. Each time Pharaoh promised to free the Israelites if God removed the plague, and each time he changed his mind when the plague was over. After the final plague, death of all the firstborn in Egypt, Pharaoh allowed them to leave. However, he changed his mind again at the last moment and pursued the Israelites with his army.
