"For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified." (1 Cor. 2:2)

John 6:1-15

The Fourth Sunday in Lent (Laetare)

In the Name of the Father and + of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

LIE-TAH-REH ... which means REJOICE!

Rejoice because Easter is almost here.

Rejoice because you are Baptized into the Christ.

Rejoice because Jesus forgives all your sins.

The 5,000 men plus women and children had cause to rejoice as well. Jesus knew their hunger before they could even ask for something to eat. Jesus knows your needs too. He anticipates your illnesses, pains, sufferings, and every other malady known to man. Jesus individualizes your needs as He suffered the same in your stead.

Your rejoicing began when you entered into the House of The Lord for the first time with the seal of the Holy Spirit and the Name of God written on your soul. Jesus knew you needed refreshment from your malady of sin and death. He called you. Took you. Washed you. Claimed you. Forgave you and blessed you.

Rejoice because you can now call upon the Name of The Lord because Jesus open the gates of heaven for you through His Passion, suffering, dying, and rising again from the dead.

Rejoice because of the peace that Jesus gives to you in your life; a peace which the world cannot give. Peace in Christ is knowing that Jesus is your salvation. Knowing that Jesus died on the cross to save you from sin, death, and the power of the devil. Peace is knowing and believing in the freedom and liberation Jesus secured for you with His Body and Blood. Peace is holding fast to the Christ who forgives you all your sins.

Your life is full and refreshed because Jesus is the source of your nourishment. He provides for all your daily needs. The Creator Himself blesses the land and makes one kernel grow great enough to feed the masses.

Jesus strengthens you through His Means of Grace; Word and Sacraments, so that in your time of trial and affliction of poverty, loneliness, financial despair, you may be driven to Him for relief.

The 5,000 men plus women and children would've suffered greatly, maybe even died, if they turned to the disciples or even themselves for help in time of need. The sinner's attempts to relived the body, mind, and spirit from affliction is futile and insignificant compared to the word of the Christ who took five barley loaves and two fish, gave thanks and fed the multitude.

This great miracle teaches you that Jesus, and He alone, has power to satisfy human hearts. Jesus is the only One who satisfies human nature. Nothing else can. Not the world. Not sin. Not pleasure. Not success. Not learning. Neither health nor wealth. Only Jesus.

Jesus is the Bread sent from heaven to feed and nourish you. Jesus is the One who can sustain your life. If you feed on Him, you shall not want. He alone multiplies the blessings in your life. In Christ, you never have to worry about your daily needs. He gives more than you will ever need.

Rejoice because Easter is almost here.

Rejoice because you are Baptized into the Christ.

Rejoice because Jesus forgives all your sins.

In the Name of the Father and + of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

The peace of God which surpasses all understanding guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Amen.
